The decade in which we currently live has been an anniversary decade for African descendant liberation struggles, including: 300 years since the independence of Haiti; 160 years since the U.S 13th Amendment abolishing slavery; 70 years since numerous African states gained independence; 60 years since the Voting Rights Act in the USA; and 30 years since the ending of Apartheid. The contemporary landscape is marked by ongoing injustices across the world, impacting the lives of global majority populations adversely. To what extent and in what ways can the wisdom of past intellectual traditions and radical consciousness provide illumination to confront the challenges of the present and future? This conference explores these matters.
